Our Story

Our BlueCube journey started through collaboration and participation in Welsh EU funded research projects, specifically Ecostructure and SEACAMS.

These transformative initiatives provided us with a unique opportunity to upscale academic eco-engineering ideas into practical solutions.

Throughout our involvement in these projects, we recognized that marine and coastal eco-engineering is a multifaceted endeavour that demands the collective efforts of various stakeholders. This collaboration spans across industry partners, academic institutions, government agencies, and the wider society, each contributing their unique expertise and perspectives.

At the heart of BlueCube’s capabilities lies the fusion of decades of ecological and concrete manufacturing experience. Our team thrives on the spirit of exploration, innovation, and continuous learning. Eco-engineering, being a relatively new field, fuels our passion for contributing pioneering solutions that address complex environmental challenges.

We take pride in pushing the boundaries of what is possible in eco-engineering, leveraging our combined expertise to design and implement sustainable habitats for marine life. The process of developing new ideas, conducting experiments, and learning from one another propels us forward in this dynamic and evolving field.

Who We Are

Vision and mission

At BlueCube our vison is a world where diverse marine biota thrive in man-made environments.

We will

PUSH THE BOUNDARIES OF WHAT’S CURRENTLY POSSIBLE

We have an inherent need to experiment — to push the boundaries of current possibility. We develop new materials, new shapes, and new ideas. We ask ourselves, ‘how far can we go?’. We encourage a culture of trial and error; of progress, development and challenging the norm. We find the risk takers and work with them to innovate in a world where anything is possible.

COLLABORATE WITH THE SECTORS OUTSIDE OF OUR COMFORT ZONES

We’re a company of contradictions in the best way possible. We combine academia with engineering, natural habitats with man-made structures, ecology with concrete. Because we know that in order to achieve what we’ve set out to — we have to collaborate with people in all areas of expertise. Within science, and outside of it. We have to step beyond our comfort zone and learn from each other.

SEE THE SOCIAL VALUE IN AN ARTISTIC TOUCH

How things look is important to us. Whilst our primary focus is on supporting marine biodiversity, the environments we create have to work for our communities. We collaborate with designers and artists to create spaces that people can enjoy. Before they know who we are, before they know the purpose of our projects, they will notice our efforts to enhance their homes through beautiful, curious, and interesting artwork.

BRING OUR COMMUNITIES ALONG FOR THE RIDE

If we want real change, we have to bring our communities along on the ride. We work on a grassroots level to inspire people to care for their coast. We work with schools, councils, and local organisations. We build relationships with people. We ask them to step into their environment and find something they love about the sea. We spark curiosity. We make it fun. We can only succeed long-term if we work together.

ENJOY THE CHALLENGE AND MOVE WITH THE TIDES

The very nature of our job means that we need to act fast. It makes us agile, proactive and always one step ahead of the game. And this mindset doesn’t stop with the sea — it filters down into every aspect of our work — keeping us on our toes and ready for a challenge whatever we’re working on.

Who We Are

Our Values

At BlueCube, our core values drive us to embrace creativity and approach problem - solving with openness and innovation. We understand that to make a real difference, we must venture beyond our comfort zone, daring to explore uncharted territories and pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

Creativity

We firmly believe that communities lie at the heart of our endeavours. By working hand in hand with local residents and stakeholders, we can create a lasting and meaningful impact. We recognize the importance of giving people a voice in the places they call home, valuing their insights and experiences in shaping our projects.

Community

As a team, we embrace our responsibility to address the challenges posed by a rapidly changing world. Our commitment goes beyond simply acknowledging the damage that has been done to the environment; we actively seek new and sustainable solutions. By continually striving for innovative approaches, we aspire to contribute to the preservation of our planet.

Conscience

At BlueCube, we take pride in our mission to foster a sustainable coexistence between marine life, coastal communities, and infrastructure. Through our imaginative and collaborative efforts, we aim to create a brighter and more resilient future for all, one where ecological balance and human prosperity thrive in harmony.
